Why I Started Laluedesign.com: From the Slopes to the Court
The "Second Act" of a Finance Veteran
For decades, my world was defined by spreadsheets, market trends, and the fast-paced environment of the finance sector. It was a rewarding career, but it was one built on logic and numbers. When I finally reached retirement in 2025, I found myself at a crossroads. Many look at retirement as a time to slow down, but I saw it as an opportunity to finally answer a question that had been lingering in the back of my mind: Could I thrive in a world that was purely creative?
I didn’t want to just be "retired." I wanted to be self-employed. I wanted to build something from the ground up that was a reflection of my own passions rather than a reflection of a balance sheet. That is how Laluedesign.com was born.
Turning Passion into Design
Laluedesign.com isn't a random collection of shirts. It is a curated map of my life’s hobbies. People often ask why a single store features Equestrian gear, Tennis apparel, Padel Apparel and Ski designs all in one place. The answer is simple: I don’t just design for these niches; I live in them. And as a father of triplets I also designed a t-shirt answering a question in German and English ;-)
Whether it’s the precision of a serve on the tennis or padel court, the adrenaline of a downhill run on the slopes, or the quiet discipline required at the stables, these are the places where I feel most at home. I realized that most "big brand" apparel felt corporate and cold. I wanted to create something with personality and performance—clothing made by someone who actually knows what it feels like to be out there.
From the Boardroom to the Studio
Trading a suit for a sketchbook was a challenge. In finance, everything is about mitigation and risk. In creativity, everything is about expression and "seeing if it works." Starting this project in October 2025 has been a masterclass in learning.
I’ve traded analyzing market caps for analyzing the "softness and structure" of the perfect cotton tee. I’ve shifted from managing portfolios to managing a brand that produces locally in the US and Europe to ensure that fellow enthusiasts get the quality they deserve.
Why It Matters
Laluedesign.com is my proof that you are never too old to start something new or to prove that you have a creative soul.
